Soccer loses assistant coach
ASU assistant soccer coach Blair Quinn will be leaving his position at Arizona State to accept a position as head coach at New Mexico State.
Quinn started coaching at ASU in 2007, and was immediately an integral part of the coaching staff, serving mainly as a goalkeeping coach. Under Quinn, goalkeeper Briana Silvestri twice set the single-season record for goals-against average and the team reached the NCAA tournament in back-to-back seasons for only the second time in school history.
Before coaching at ASU, Quinn served as an assistant coach at both Loyola Marymount and Kansas.
New Mexico State has been searching for a new head coach since former head Michael Needham stepped down in January to take a position at the University of Rhode Island, his alma mater.
Last season the Lobos posted a 7-8-3 overall record, falling well short of the NCAA tournament. However, the team has only been in existence since 2009, and Quinn will take the helm for team’s third season.
A replacement for Quinn has not yet been named.
