Police: Tempe campus building evacuated due to ‘sulfur smell’

The Engineering Research Center on the Tempe campus was evacuated shortly Monday afternoon because of a “sulfur smell” coming from one of the rooms, a police official said.
ASU Police Cmdr. Jim Hardina said the evacuation was a “precautionary measure.”
The University issued an advisory of a possible chemical spill, but Hardina was unable to confirm. A Tempe Fire official said the smell was coming from a garbage can, but did not know what substance caused the odor.
At around 3 p.m., ASU posted a statement on its website saying the building was reopened.
There were no reported injuries.
