Gov. Jan Brewer’s chief of staff Eileen Klein was unanimously selected to be the Arizona Board of Regents president during a special executive meeting Wednesday.
Klein will be replacing current ABOR President Tom Anderes, who announced earlier this summer that he would not be serving another term.
Executive chair Rick Myers said Anderes will be a UA professor when his term ends.
The regents also voted that, if Klein accepts the position, her salary would not exceed the Anderes’ current salary, which is $300,000 per year.
Klein must first accept the position to officially become the ABOR president.
Myers said Klein’s role as president will include being the middleman between ABOR and the three Arizona university presidents.
Although Klein does not have a background in education, the board felt that she best fit the job because of her administrative experience.
