Tempe Police reported the following incidents Friday:
A Chandler woman was arrested Feb. 11 at East Apache Boulevard and South Martin Lane on suspicion of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing a public thoroughfare and drug paraphernalia possession, according to a police report.
Officers saw the woman walking north against a “Do not walk” sign, police reported.
Upon conducting a subject stop, the woman became belligerent and threw a hypodermic needle, CD and miscellaneous items at police, according to the report.
When officers attempted to arrest the woman, she struggled and tried to run away, police reported.
The woman brandished a box cutter but eventually dropped it during the struggle with officers, according to the report.
After deploying a taser, police were able to detain the woman in handcuffs, police reported.
When officers asked the woman why she tried to run away, she said she did because she was in charge of her own body, according to the report.
The woman was transported to Tempe City Jail, where she was booked and pending release, according to the report.
On Feb. 11, units from the Tempe Fire Department and Tempe Police Department responded to a 911 call for a fire in a hotel room on the 1000 block of East Apache Boulevard, according to a police report.
When officers arrived, the fire was already extinguished by the fire suppression system in the hotel room, police reported.
The fire caused $5,000 in damage to the carpet, mattress, sheets, ceiling, walls and objects in the room, according to the report.
The fire suppression sprinklers flooded the room and caused water to leak over to the next hotel room, police reported.
The renter of the room, a Mesa man, left before police arrived but returned to the room at 10:45 a.m., police reported.
The man told officers he threw a cigarette while in a “meditative, unconscious state,” causing the fire, police reported.
He told officers he left the room to hike “A” mountain and meditate, according to the report.
The man was transported to Tempe City Jail. where he was booked and held, according to officers.
