Tempe Police reported the following incidents Sunday:
- A 24-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Aug. 28 near South Hardy Drive and West Baseline Road on suspicion of robbery, according to a police report.
On June 5, a woman was sitting in the driver’s seat of her car on the 1900 block of East Ellis Drive when a man approached her and grabbed her purse, the report said.
A struggle ensued and the man punched the woman on the side of her face, causing her to let go of her purse, according to police.
As he ran away, the woman followed him and got the license plate of the car he got into, police reported.
Police took DNA evidence from the woman’s car and checked the records of the license plate number she provided, the report said.
On Aug. 28, police detained the owner of the car that matched the license plate and vehicle description, police reported.
He told police only he and his girlfriend drove the vehicle and no other family and friends had access to it, police said.
He denied any involvement in the crime and requested to speak with a lawyer, the report said.
Police took a DNA swab from the man and booked him into Tempe City Jail, according to the report.
- A 27-year-old Dewey man was arrested Aug. 30 at South Mill and West Southern avenues on suspicion of drug paraphernalia possession, being a fugitive from justice and providing false information, according to a police report.
Between Aug. 29 and Aug. 30, the man was contacted by police officers three different times, the report said.
On each occasion, police reported that the man would not give them his real name and only gave them a fake alias.
During one of the stops, officers asked him for his identification but the man only gave the officer a piece of paper with a fake name on it, police reported.
Another officer who recognized the man arrived on the scene, and when police did a background check, they discovered he had a warrant for his arrest because of a probation violation, police said.
Police found an electronic cigarette with marijuana inside his shorts pocket during a search, police reported.
He was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, the report said.
