Tempe Police: Man breaks into Quaker meeting hall, sleeps in hallway

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Monday:

  • A 24-year-old Tempe man was arrested Jan. 12 on the 300 block of East Fifteenth Street on suspicion of burglary in the third degree, false reporting to law enforcement, aggravated criminal damage and burglary in the first degree, according to a police report. A member called police to the Tempe Friends Meeting after he found the man sleeping in a hallway of the meeting hall, the report said. The meeting hall had been closed and locked the night before, but the man entered through a broken window, police said. When officers arrived to the meeting hall, the man was still asleep, according to the report.A search revealed several broken windows the man had used to get in the hall, police reported.As officers detained the man, they realized he was wearing a brown skirt from the Tempe Friends Meeting’s Christmas costumes, according to the report.

    Police realized the man had given officers a false name and date of birth after another officer at the station recognized him, the report said.

    The man was transported to Tempe City Jail where he was booked and held to see a judge, according the report.

  • A 51-year-old man was arrested on the 1000 block of South Ash Avenue on Jan. 11 on suspicion of trafficking in stolen property in the second degree, dangerous drug possession, theft control of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a police report. Officers arrested the man at his residence after serving him a search warrant for his home and his storage unit, police said.A search of his residence revealed a usable amount of methamphetamine. The man is the sole occupant of the home, according to the report.Police also found more than 19 stolen bicycles in the storage unit, police reported.The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and released pending charges, according to the report.
