Tempe reported the following incident Thursday:
- A 43-year old man was arrested Sunday on South Mill Avenue and West Third Street on suspicion of marijuana possession, theft control of lost property and having an outstanding warrant, according to a police report.Police received a service call that said a homeless man wearing a black and white coat was lying on the ground near the light rail tracks, the report said.
Officers arrived on the scene and approached the man matching the description, police said.
The man told police his name, and officers found he had an outstanding warrant from Tempe Police, according to the report.
Police detained the man and found a usable quantity of marijuana in his front right pocket, the report said.
The man said a friend gave it to him, but he thought it was spice and not marijuana, police reported.
The search also revealed the man had an identification card, a credit card, a social security card and a birth certificate belonging to someone else, according to the report.
The man told police he was friends with the owner of the items and had received the items from him, the report said.
The man described his friend as a short white man but police confirmed the owner of the items is a tall black man, according to the report.
Officers found a Phoenix Police report of a lost wallet containing the items the man had, police said.
The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held, according to the report.
