Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:
- A 21-year-old Fort McDowell man was arrested Saturday on the 2000 block of East Broadway Road on suspicion of criminal damage, according to a police report.
Officers responded to a call about a man trying to take two motorcycles, according to the report.
The caller told police the man was wearing a white shirt and black shorts and trying to steal her family’s motorcycles, police reported. She told officers the man moved the bikes out of their parking spot, knocked them to the ground and began kicking them, according to the report.
The caller’s husband came outside, punched the man and told him to stay on the ground so he wouldn’t take off with the bike, police reported. Their son came outside with his gun, which he later put away, the report said.
Officers discovered that the man had an outstanding city of Tempe warrant for driving on a suspended license, police reported.
The family told police he had done approximately $3,000 in damage to their motorcycles, according to the report.
The report said the man appeared to be under the influence of an unknown alcoholic beverage or drug, police reported. He told officers his child had died, according to the report.
The man was transported to Tempe Saint Luke’s Hospital, police reported. There, he told officers he had been trying to sleep and that a person named Erin was trying to kill him, according to the report.
After being cleared by hospital staff, the man was transported to the Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held.
- A 25-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Saturday on the 700 block of South Ash Avenue on suspicion of obstructing a public thoroughfare and failing to carry identification, according to a police report.
Police responded to a call about a shoplifting incident in which a suspect who was in custody had taken two cases of Coors Light beer, police reported.
Another man was seen running from the store with the cases, police reported.
Police found the man, and he proceeded to run across the street causing cars to swerve to avoid hitting him, according to the report.
He was arrested and transported to Tempe City Jail, police reported.
