One tournament into the 2010 men's golf season, it's clear the Pac-10 Conference is packing a serious punch.
No. 3 ASU shot 25-over par and finished 10th in a 22-team field at the Mauna Lani Invitational in Hawaii, a tournament that concluded Friday and was dominated by the Pac-10.
Stanford led the conference charge with a first-place finish at 2-over par, three strokes ahead of Oregon and Washington, who tied for second.
UCLA finished eighth with a 21-over par and USC finished a shot back in ninth place to round out the Pac-10's dominant showing.
In 15th place following the first two rounds of the tournament, the Sun Devils carded their best round of the day in the final round.
ASU shot a 278, the lowest round scored by any team during the tournament, and made up five places.
The Sun Devils were led by junior Jesper Kennegard, who shot a 68 in the final round to finish the tournament in 16th place at 2-over par.
Junior Scott Pinckney overcame a rough first-round 79 to finish the event at 4-over, good enough for a 21st-place tie.
Rounding out the scoring for ASU was senior Knut Borsheim (7-over, tied for 44th), senior Tristan Bierenbroodspot (16-over, tied for 74th) and junior James Byrne (18-over, tied for 85th).
Texas junior Bobby Hudson took medalist honors with a 7-under 209, which including a 6-under 66 in Friday's final round.
The top Pac-10 individual finisher was Stanford junior Sihwan Kim, who carded a 3-under 213.
ASU will next be in action at the Battle of the Beach tournament in Newport Beach, Calif., beginning Sunday.
