The ASU water polo team suffered three losses and earned one victory this weekend to earn a seventh-place finish at the Stanford Women’s Water Polo Invitational this weekend.

The tournament consisted of eight times, all of which are in the top 10 in rankings, including the country’s top six teams.

The No. 9 Sun Devils (4-3) faced No. 3 Hawaii in their first game of the invitational. The Warriors scored three goals in each of the first three quarters and went on to win 11-7.

ASU got two goals from junior attacker Lynlee Smith, and sophomore attacker Annabelle Carter added on with another.

ASU took on No. 4 California in the second matchup of the afternoon. The Golden Bears jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the first quarter and would keep that lead for the rest of the game, eventually defeating the Sun Devils 12-6.

Four different Sun Devils put points on the board in the game, including sophomore attacker Kelsey White, who netted three goals for her first career hat trick.

The Golden Bears’ defense shut out the Sun Devils in the fourth quarter.

No. 5 UCLA was ASU’s third opponent, and the Sun Devils lost a close 7-6 contest against the defending national champions.

The Sun Devils entered halftime in a 4-4 tie with the Bruins, but ASU was kept scoreless in the third quarter while UCLA added two goals.

ASU scored twice in the fourth quarter, but the late surge was not enough.

Junior attacker Sarah Harris, senior attacker Bonnie Miles and sophomore attacker Kelsey White all scored two goals for the Sun Devils.

San Jose State was ASU’s final opponent of the invitational in the seventh-place game, where the Sun Devils dominated 11-3.
