The eight-member 2008 class will be inducted into the University’s Bill and Judy Schaefer athletic Hall of Fame at halftime of the ASU football team’s game against Oregon on Saturday.
Eric Allen — Football — 1983-1987
Allen was a part of the 1986 team that beat Michigan, 22-15, in the Rose Bowl. He also earned All-Pac-10 honors during his senior season.
He went on to play in the NFL for 14 years and earned six Pro Bowl appearances.
Jacinta Bartholomew — Track and Field — 1986-1989
Bartholomew earned All-American honors four times and competed in the long jump event at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
She holds three school records and was part of the NCAA-title-winning 4x100-meter outdoor relay team in 1988.
Brandie Burton — Golf — 1989-1990
Burton was named National Player of the Year and a First-Team All-American in her first and only season at ASU.
She won two majors in her LPGA career.
Lisa Dacquisto — Softball — 1994-1997
A First-Team All-American her final two seasons in Tempe, Dacquisto hit .413 in 1997 as the Sun Devils made the NCAA Tournament.
Despite two recent shoulder surgeries and a host of other injuries, Dacquisto still takes the field from time to time.
“I play recreationally,” she said. “[But] I’m way too competitive for the league I’m in.”
Markus Mollica — Wrestling — 1993-1996
Mollica, a four-time All-American, won national championships at 158 pounds in 1993 and 167 pounds in 1995.
Bruce Snyder — Football — 1992-2000
Snyder served the second-longest coaching stint in ASU history behind Frank Kush (22 years). Snyder presided over the Sun Devils’ 1996 Pac-10 Championship and Rose Bowl trip.
He was also named Pac-10 Coach of the Year that season, while being tabbed as National Coach of the Year by multiple publications.
Pat Tillman — Football — 1994-1997
Tillman is arguably the face of ASU athletics, past and present. Above all, Tillman’s legacy of selflessness will be remembered most. He was a part of the 1996 team that reached the Rose Bowl and was named Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year the following season.
The Arizona Cardinals selected Tillman with their last pick in the 1998 draft. He turned down a three-year, $3.6 million deal after the 2001 season to join the U.S. Army Rangers.
Tillman was killed by friendly fire on Apr. 22, 2004 while serving in Afghanistan.
“[Saturday] is going to be emotional,” Dacquisto said. “Everything you hear about Pat Tillman is true. He was a great guy.”
Jeremy Veal — Basketball — 1995-1998
Veal played in all 33 games of his freshman season, in which ASU reached the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet Sixteen for the first time in two decades.
“Going to the tournament is what I remember,” he said. “That was my fondest memory [at ASU].
Veal said he won’t be in attendance for the ceremony. He was at the airport Wednesday, traveling to Saudi Arabia, where he will continue his professional basketball career for the next six to seven months.
He said he would like to coach basketball after two more years of playing.
