Tempe police are investigating an ASU student who they say removed campaign signs from a busy street corner at the request of ASU’s Young Democrats.
On Oct. 17, Maricopa County Detective Tim Miller said he witnessed ASU education sophomore Lori Lieberman remove two signs for Tempe politicians from the southwest and southeast corners of Rural and Baseline roads and then place them in the trunk of her car, according to an initial police report.
Lieberman, a member of ASU’s Young Democrats, said she removed the signs because they were privately funded and not paid for by the person’s political party, making them unauthorized by election rules. Lieberman told Miller the Young Democrats had instructed her to remove the unauthorized signs, according to the report.
Lieberman was not arrested, and the investigation is ongoing. A call to the Young Democrats was not returned Sunday evening.
