So Herb managed to grab another Southern California transplant at shooting guard. But before you get all excited, it’s not James Harden’s younger brother.

Instead, ASU basketball’s leading man, coach Sendek, is bringing in Phoenix St. Mary’s Demetrius Walker as part of his 2009 recruiting class.
He’s no Harden, that much we know.

But to his credit, Walker was once dubbed the next LeBron. Believe it or not, that’s not of supreme importance here. What is: the trend of ASU basketball recruiting.

Walker is said to have his changed his commitment from USC to ASU in hopes of becoming one of Dick Vitale’s PTPer’s baby! — which should be easy enough in the fast-approaching post-Harden era.

And that’s the sign that Sendek’s grand plan is evolving but not complete. Top preps decide to come here (not USC), because they see the likelihood of immediate playing time. It’s like buying packaged salami at the grocery store because the deli line is too long.

We’ll know Sendek has finally built something when players want to be a part of something and not be the something.
