Despite some skeptical thoughts toward the idea of an Olsen twin book, it’s unfair to judge this book by its cover – which happens to be two huge pictures of the twins’ faces.
Okay, it might be fair. Seriously, who remembers “It Takes Two?”
“Influence” is a large coffee table book filled with interviews of accomplished designers, photographers, writers and others who’ve made an impact on the Olsens’ lives. Bob Colacello, Richard Prince and Karl Lagerfeld are among those interviewed by the Olsens.
A very impressive list, even if they are “The Olsen Twins.” Yet, when the girls talk about their subjects, they obviously see themselves as regular girls who are lucky to meet these ridiculously powerful and influential people.
Though there are a few pages dedicated to each of the girls, they aren’t too sappy and give decent insight into their lives. After all, the girls are influences themselves to designers and fashionistas around the world.
The most interesting part of the book is reading the conversations between the 22-year-old women and their subjects. The interviews are honest and it’s apparent that the Olsens have genuine interest in the people whom they call their influences.
The pages are written in simple question-and-answer format with special quotes underlined in red. Each page is visually pleasing with splashes of color, varying texts and images scattered throughout. Photos from designers’ sketchbooks, photos of the Olsens with their idols, art images and photography give the book plenty of life.
The twins clearly had some stand out interviews and among them was Lauren Hutton – fashion model and the Olsens’ self-proclaimed “God-Granny.” The model has been such an influence on the young women’s lives that she models for their clothing line.
The book is priced at $35 and has two different covers for serious fans.
Because the twins have gone through some strange times and live lives most could never imagine, they pull this book off like no one else could.
