Michael Phelps should just stay in the pool.

The galaxy’s top swimmer was busted over the weekend when a British tabloid released a photo of the Olympic champion smoking pot.

This isn’t the first time Phelps has gotten himself in trouble following his rousing success at the Olympics.

Back in 2004, a then-19-year-old Phelps was arrested for drunken driving shortly after the games in Athens.

This time his reputation may go up in smoke.

With money’s being tighter than a snare drum in today’s economic climate, companies large and small will be thinking long and hard about every advertising dollar they spend.

Some sponsors may start thinking twice about dropping massive coin on the human fish that is getting reeled in out of the water.

I know that smoking a little bit of weed after what has probably been the most intense and taxing past year of the 23-year-old’s life doesn’t seem like the world’s most egregious offense.

But in a time in which advertisers can afford to take few chances, it may be an offense that thins out his wallet.

It’s OK, though, I hear those gold medals can fetch a pretty penny.
