The coaching staff was spread thin this weekend with athletes in three different states.
But the ASU track and field team produced more of the same results to which that the athletes, coaches and fans are accustomed:
Wins.
For the third week in a row, senior Charonda Williams burned up the track and won the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.74 in Albuquerque, N.M.
Williams’ time at the New Mexico Classic was her fastest of the season so far, and the second time her mark provisionally qualified her for the national meet.
She also anchored the 4x400-meter relay that placed first with a time of 3:44.82.
The meet was also a great opportunity for Williams and other members of the Sun Devil track and field team to compete on the 200-meter bank track that will be featured at this year’s indoor championships at Texas A&M.
The Sun Devil women won the 200-meter in Flagstaff as well, thanks to Kayla Sanchez’s time of 25.12.
Senior Stephanie Garnett also won for the third week in a row in the long jump with a distance of six meters.
It was her shortest distance of the season so far, but the win added to ASU’s total of seven event wins on the day.
Senior Sarah Stevens also contributed another stellar performance in the weight throw with a toss of 21.59 meters.
Stevens’ mark is currently the best in the nation collegiately, and the second week in a row which it met the NCAA’s automatic qualifying standards.
Stevens won the shot put as well with a throw of 16.48 meters, leading the way for the Sun Devils in wins.
The only win for the men came from junior Jeremy Egboro’s leap of 14.63 meters in the triple jump.
ASU will spread themselves across the country again next week with competitions in Seattle, Wash., Flagstaff, and College Station, Texas.
