Whenever this season ends, Jeff Pendergraph will leave as the final player of the pre-Sendek era and probably the school’s all-time starts leader. Here’s a look back at Sun Devil basketball since Pendergraph came aboard in 2005.

2005

Nov. 26

Pendergraph makes his collegiate debut, fresh off rehabbing his surgically-repaired left knee. Upon arriving in Tempe for a physical, doctors found a benign tumor in his knee and removed it during what was supposed to be an exploratory surgery. Pendergraph notched four points, two rebounds and four personal fouls in 14 minutes of play.

2006

Mar. 8

The Sun Devils lose 71-68 to Oregon State in the first round of the Pac-10 Conference Tournament. ASU went on a 7-0 run in the final 2 minutes of the game but couldn’t close the gap.

March 10

While sitting at home during the first weekend of spring break, Pendergraph finds out that ASU coach Rob Evans has been fired. Pendergraph said he contemplated transferring to another program.

April 3

After a thorough search, ASU athletic director Lisa Love selects North Carolina State coach Herb Sendek to be Evans’ replacement. Pendergraph said he knew nothing at all about Sendek, but was impressed upon meeting him for the first time. This is about where Sendek starts referring to Pendergraph as the “ambassador” of ASU basketball.

Nov. 8

Help is on the way. Sendek announces his recruiting class for the 2007-08 season, highlighted by a McDonalds All-American named James Harden.

Nov. 15

Pendergraph helps Sendek earn his first victory as ASU head coach, a 69-52 defeat of Cal State San Bernadino. Pendergraph scores eight points and pulls down eight rebounds.

2007

Jan. 25

Pendergraph notches his first career double-double, a 17 point-11rebound effort, in an 80-70 loss to archrival UA.

Feb. 18

Pendergraph and Co. win their first Pac-10 Conference game under Sendek, defeating USC at home 68-58. The Sun Devils had lost their initial 14 conference contests before toppling the Trojans.

March 7

ASU exits in the first round of the Pac-10 Tournament again. This time the Sun Devils fall to Washington 59-51.

2008

Jan. 9

Pendergraph experiences victory over UA for the first time, as the Sun Devils beat the Wildcats 64-59 in overtime at home.

Feb. 10

The Sun Devils beat the Wildcats 59-54 in Tucson. This time, Pendergraph scores a career-high 29 points (12-of-16 shooting) to go along with eight rebounds.

March 13

ASU falls 59-55 to USC in the first round of the Pac-10 Tournament. Pendergraph is called for a controversial over-the-back call when he dunks in a putback over USC’s DaVon Jefferson. The basket would have tied the game at 57-57 with 16 seconds left.

March 25

The Sun Devils lose 70-57 to Florida in the third round of the NIT. Pendergraph will consider entering the NBA Draft but elects to come back for his senior year.

2009

Jan. 2

Pendergraph sets a new career-high of 31 points in a 90-60 win at Stanford.

Feb. 12

For the first time in his career, Pendergraph sweeps high-school buddy Darren Collison and UCLA, by winning 74-67 in Tempe.

Feb. 22

Pendergraph caps off his regular-season career against UA by winning four straight. He scores 16 points and grabs 12 rebounds in the 70-68 victory.
