Jeans have experienced many highs and lows over the decades. Literally —⎯ high-waisted, low-rise hip-huggers, tightly cropped and flooded flares. Denim has gained a reputation as one of the most versatile instruments of fashion.

Denim pants are not only a product of experimentation and comfort, but have become an American icon of sorts. Hallie Gangle, an earth and space exploration freshman, says that jeans are a popular choice for college students because, “they match everything and they don’t look dirty.” Jeans are also easy to throw on to go to class without looking sloppy when students don’t have a lot of time to do laundry, she says.

Jeans are like chameleons; they are able to transform into many different looks. Most of the magic is in the fit. “I love skinny leg because you can just throw them on and they look good with anything,” psychology sophomore Janise Cota says. “I would love to try high-waisted. If they looked good on me, I’d wear them.” After discovering the perfect length, wash and body-flattering design, one may never venture to another brand again.

After decades of transformations, it’s no wonder that jeans make an appearance in everyone’s wardrobe. This is the only time when having the blues is a good thing.
