Peter Bjorn and John – “Living Thing”
Score: 2.5 out of 5
Peter Bjorn and John swept the nation with whistling in their song “Young Folks,” from their 2007 album “Writers Block,” but this time around there’s no whistling.
There is a chorus of children in one song and lots of other eclectic noises, but no happy whistling. In fact the album itself isn’t very fun, after listening to a few tracks listeners may find themselves restless and ready to move on as there are few to none catchy bits to hook them and the lyrics exude moping.
The most catchy song, “Lay it Down,” and perhaps best track of the album is buried all the way down at track eight of the album and is partially so memorable simply for it’s titillating lyrics that are best left unsaid in the presence of delicate ears/eyes.
The band is clearly talented; it’s just a bummer that they’re such, well, bummers. Maybe during the next album they’ll be in a better place mentally for everyone’s sake.
