Vegas on a student’s budget

Las Vegas can be affordable for students on a budget, as long as they watch their spending and know where to eat, sleep and gamble. (Ellen Creager | MCT )

For most, the thought of traveling to Las Vegas probably includes “Money, Money, Money” — either to win, or to lose.

However, with nearly 4 1/2 miles to walk up and down, even the tightest budget traveler can find something to do in a city that doesn’t sleep.

With some of the best restaurants in the nation such as Emeril Lagasse’s brand new Table Ten, it may be tempting to splurge on a fancy meal.

However, have no fear, because Vegas offers much more for the gourmet eater at a much lower price.

The Coffee Shop located at the Binions Gambling Hall and Hotel offers fantastic meals ranging from $5 to $20, including Alaskan King Salmon served either poached or grilled for only $10.95.

Gambling is not the only thing that keeps Vegas travelers coming back — try watching the famous water show located at the Fountains of the Bellagio all day every day for no charge.

And even the budget gambler can enjoy a little gaming without the thought of not being able to make rent.

Casinos offer low-cost slot machines that range from penny machines to nickel machines.

And with a small tip to your server, you can be sure to always have a free cocktail in hand.

Simply getting to Vegas on a budget may seem like more than half the battle, however, with the airline industry seeing its worst numbers in years. But because of that, most are practically giving tickets away.

Www.lastminutedeals.com is perhaps the best spot to start searching for package deals that could include a three-night trip with both flight and resort for as low as $140 per person.

By saving up a few paychecks, a mid-semester or summer trip like this should not leave any college student worried about breaking the bank.
