The world premiere of the newest X-Men movie could be held at the Harkins Cine Capri at Tempe Marketplace on April 27, according to local public relations firm.

To help publicize the movie’s release, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” is holding a contest on its Web site for fans to vote for where the premiere should be held, with visitors voting for their hometowns.

As of right now, Tempe is tied in the vote tally with Davis, Calif.; followed by Hastings, Neb. and Austin, Texas, according to a news release from Allied Advertising and Public Relations, which is promoting the film in the Valley.

Phoenix is also on the list of cities leading the vote tally — in ninth place.

If Tempe wins, the cast and crew of the film, along with Hollywood A-listers would attend the red carpet premiere, said journalism sophomore Elizabeth Cain, who interns at Allied Advertising.

On Wednesday, Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman and Harkins Theater owner Dan Harkins held a press conference encouraging locals to go vote for the Tempe’s local zip code, 85281.

Along with the conference, Harkins also took out an ad in The Arizona Republic to promote the local theater as the premiere’s location.

Online voting will be cut off at 8:59 p.m. on Friday and the winner will be announced on Monday.

To vote, visit x-menorigins.com/premiere and enter using Tempe zip code 85281.
