The ASU water polo team’s season came to an end this weekend as the No. 8 Sun Devils went 0-3 in the MPSF championship in Hawaii.
The first loss came Friday at the hands of No. 1 USC.
Friday marked the fourth time the teams met this season. The Trojans won all four matches and outscored the Sun Devils 59-25 collectively.
At the end of the first half of Friday‘s match, the Sun Devils trailed the Trojans 6-5. The second half was a bit more lopsided as the Sun Devils were outscored 6-1, losing the match 12-6.
Day two of the tournament was no picnic for the Sun Devils, either.
The team faced off against No. 6 San Jose State on Saturday morning in a match that yielded a tough 16-13 loss. The Sun Devils fell to 0-3 on the season against the Spartans.
Sunday offered no relief. The Sun Devils dropped another close decision, 12-11 against No. 7 San Diego State, in what was the last match of their season, and the last match for senior star Addison McGrath in the maroon and gold. Despite the losses, there was a silver lining in the fact that McGrath ended her storied career on a good note.
In the three matches, McGrath scored 11 goals, leaving her at 63 on the season and an ASU-record 237 in her collegiate career.
