Many Los Angeles residents made the trip to San Diego for the Fourth of July holiday this past weekend.
But they didn’t head south because of the beaches or fireworks.
They wanted to see the return of Manny Ramirez from his 50-game suspension for violating the league’s drug policy.
And even in an opposing ballpark, ManRam got a heck of an ovation from those in Dodger blue.
But why?
Granted, the Dodgers didn’t exactly miss a beat while Ramirez was suspended, but that doesn’t change the fact that he cheated and probably cost Los Angeles at least a couple wins because of his absence.
In other words, Los Angeles would be in an even better position to run away with the National League’s best record if Manny had been in the lineup the past two months.
Shouldn’t that make Dodger fans angry?
And let’s not forget that Ramirez can now be put in the same category as Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez and Mark McGwire, who have all been dealt their fair share of harsh criticism from fans because of their connection to steroids.
But instead of being embarrassed by their juiced-up superstar, the Dodger fans practically worship Ramirez.
I guess this is Hollywood we’re talking about — they’re all a little wacky.
