Soccer’s Volpe garners Pac-10 Player of the Week honors

In the first tournament of the 2009 season, ASU junior forward Karin Volpe played her way to the earn the Pac-10 Player of the Week award.

The honor was announced Sept. 1, after Volpe’s performance at the Lady Vol Classic in the come-from-behind 3-2 victory against No. 23 Tennessee.

The two goals Volpe put away over the weekend not only lifted the Sun Devils to their victory against Tennessee, but tied her single-game high and moved her into a tie for fourth place on ASU’s all-time career game-winning goal list, with seven.

Volpe led the Sun Devils in goals, points, game-winning goals and shots in each of her first two seasons. As a sophomore, she had 20 points, nine goals, three game-winning goals and 45 shots.

She also earned Pac-10 Honorable Mention honors in 2008.
