Golf opens fall with win

The fifth-ranked ASU men’s golf team opened its season on a high note, finishing first in the Olympia Fields Invitational in Chicago over the weekend by two shots over Oklahoma State University.

The team, consisting of juniors Cameron Edens, Jesper Kennegard and Scott Pinckney and seniors Knut Borsheim and Tristan Bierenbroodspot, competed against 15 other schools at the invitational.

Among those teams were No. 1 Stanford and No. 2 OSU.

As a whole, the team accumulated a score of 30-over par (870) during the course of the three-day tournament.

The Olympia Fields Country Club was the course used for previous U.S. Open tournaments and PGA Championship matches.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament consisted of three rounds of 18 holes over the 7,157-yard course.

The Sun Devils tied with San Diego State and the University of Illinois for fourth place on the first day, with a score of 12-over par (293).

The team scored a 4-over par (284) Saturday, which put them in first place with an accumulated score of 17-over par (577).

Bierenbroodspot led the Sun Devils with a sixth-place finish, accumulating a score of 4-over par (214), while Pinckney was right behind in eighth place with a score of 5-over par (215).

Kennegard ended the three-day tournament with a score of 10-over par (220), with Borsheim trailing closely behind with a score of 11-over par (221).

Edens rounded out the ASU scoring with a 27-over par (237).
