The ASU men’s golf team finished in third place at the Ping/Golfweek Invitational over the weekend.

The team’s cumulative score over the course of two days was a 25-over 889, which was 27 strokes behind an Oklahoma State squad that dominated the field.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament was held at the Gold Mountain Golf Complex in Bremerton, Wash.

Thirty-six holes were played Sunday, and the remaining 18 holes were played Monday during the third and final round.

The Sun Devils finished the first day of the tournament in fifth place, with a score of 17-over par.

Individually, two Sun Devil golfers finished in the top 10.

Senior Knut Borsheim and junior Scott Pinckney finished in a tie for sixth place to lead the Sun Devils, with both shooting a 4-over 220 for the tournament.

Junior Jesper Kennegard just missed out on a top-10 finish, placing 12th with a 6-over 222 three-round total.

Senior Braxton Marquez shot a 3-over 75 in both rounds on the first day, which tied him for 25th place. He finished the event, which was his first tournament of the season, tied for 36th after a score of 12-over 228.

Senior Tristan Bierenbroodspot scored a 3-over 75 on the first round and a 6-over 78 in the second round, which tied him for 47th place after the first day. A final score of 16-over 232 tied Bierenbroodspot for 51st place.

ASU head coach Randy Lein said he was satisfied with the team’s third-place finish, especially given the level of competition at the tournament.

“[A] third-place finish is good; we beat Oklahoma State last week, but most coaches know at this time that they were the team to beat,” Lein said. “Washington was going to be a hard team to beat because they were hosting, but we beat every team we should have beaten.”

Lein also noted he was happy with the team individually.

“It was good to see three guys finish in the top 12, and they are looking to be the nucleus of the team,” he said.

Lein said the team will use the nearly month off before its next tournament to do a little relaxing.

“We went right into a qualifying when school started and then two tournaments,” he said. “We will slow down this week and let the team catch up, and then we’ll go into practice match play within the team. I want it to be fun but also competitive.”

The team will have some time off before heading to its next tournament on Oct. 25, the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational in Orlando, Fla.
