While the ASU football team’s loss was the most heart-breaking defeat for Valley sports fans during the weekend, it was hardly the most ironic.
The distinction went to the Arizona Diamondbacks. They were all but bounced from the playoffs because of, who else, Micah Owings.
That’s right, folks, it was the same slugging pitcher who the D-backs sent to the Cincinnati Reds last week to complete the trade for Adam Dunn.
Owings, oddly enough, beat his former team Saturday with a go-ahead RBI double in the 10th inning.
The loss to Owings and the lowly Reds was just the most recent in a pathetic, if not comical, stretch for the Snakes.
When you are beat in extra innings at home, by a pitcher, with his bat; it’s probably about time to schedule some early October tee times (I hear Legacy is a great course, guys).
Hey Bob Melvin, let’s hit the links.
