Don’t you love the NCAA? Apparently, you can repeatedly attempt to gouge somebody’s eyes out, but you can’t have dinner with or receive career advice from an ex-NFL player.
Many people have written about the Brandon Spikes incident, so let’s keep it short.
The Florida linebacker tried to gouge out Georgia running back Washaun Ealey’s eyes during last weekend’s game.
The NCAA allowed the school, Florida, to determine the punishment. He was suspended for one half.
Does anyone honestly believe that a university would suspend its All-American linebacker seriously? In his defense, Spikes imposed a full-game suspension on himself.
Those who have attempted to say its part of the game have never played football. Football is a game of controlled violence — emphasis on controlled.
It’s also no coincidence that former players all over the airwaves have strongly condemned the act and the “punishment.”
Only biased fans who have never played serious football have defended Spikes’ actions.
Oklahoma State wide receiver Dez Bryant was invited to Deion Sanders’ home, had dinner prepared by Sanders and received career advice.
Basically, he sought the advice from a former professional, just like anyone in any profession should do. For this, he was suspended for the remainder of the season.
