Tempe’s mayor recognized on Thursday the combined efforts from law enforcement on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border in the August arrest of a sexual-assault suspect.
Mayor Hugh Hallman recognized the Tempe Police Department, U.S. Marshal Service and Sonoran State Police in Mexico for their interagency work in tracking down and arresting Graham Gravely, who is accused of sexually assaulting a 73 year-old Tempe woman in her home in July.
Police investigators and federal agents tracked Gravely’s movements to Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, where he was arrested by Mexican authorities on Aug. 2.
Hallman joined Tempe Police Chief Tom Ryff, City Council members and Deputy Dave Gonzalez of the U.S. Marshals in honoring Mexican law enforcement officers instrumental in helping locate and capture Gravely.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our friends from Mexico, our brothers in law enforcement,” Ryff said. “[Mexican officials] immediately responded to the requests of the U.S. Marshals and Tempe PD.”
