There’s a reason the Harlem Globetrotters have been around for so long.
Sure, there are the high flyers and great ball handlers, but their talent is exceeded by their willingness to give back.
In 83 years, the Globetrotters have played in 120 countries and 44 of the states in the U.S. And this year, they will play nearly 300 games in four months.
Clearly, their organization pushes more than just basketball games.
The reception from fans of all walks of life and the institution of their Smile Patrol program are just a few examples of the way this team has found to make headlines.
In their moments of down time, the players in red, white and blue aren’t found causing trouble or being investigated for steroids.
It’s refreshing.
And in today’s day and age, maybe it’s necessary.
Everyone is talking about how athletes should set good examples for their younger fans, but many of them aren’t up for the challenge.
This organization makes good character a prerequisite.
Visiting hospitals and elementary schools are just a part of the Globetrotters’ daily routine.
They are the epitome of the “role model,” encompassing both unsurpassed ability and a strong moral fiber.
