On Sunday night, after I broke up with football for the fourth time this season — this time, for good — I flipped the channel over to ESPN and started watching the MLS cup.
It was a pretty ugly breakup, OK?
And thanks for nothing, Jay Cutler.
Anyway, this one-night stand I had with the other football was worth every minute.
I admit I missed the first half because I was trying to work things out with fútbol americano.
Besides, we had to figure out who was going to get the toaster.
But when I tuned in to the match between the L.A. Galaxy and Real Salt Lake, I was not surprised that the star-studded roster of the Galaxy was clinging to a 1-0 lead.
After Phoenix native Robbie Findley knotted the match at 1, the prospect of seeing a team that did not even have a winning percentage of .500 knock off league MVP Landon Donovan was too good to elicit a switch back to see if the Bears were hooking up with anybody else yet.
RSL vindicated my viewership by winning on penalty kicks 5-4, in one of the most exciting finishes of the year in sports.
So take that, Bears.
I’m doing fine without you.
