Kicks that won't quit

There’s no denying the popularity and durability of Converse shoes.

Maybe that’s why these classics have been around since the early 1900’s and can be seen on students all around campus at ASU.

Design junior Keegan Miller continues to wear his tattered black Converse, even though they have a hole in the side. Miller says they usually last him a long time. Besides, he likes them.

“I usually get them because they’re comfortable, cheap, and they have different styles,” Miller says.

Elementary education sophomore Jennifer Clauss says she likes her Converse for similar reasons.

“They’re really comfy and you can just wear them with a lot,” Clauss says.

Clauss’s baby blue Converse shoes are four years old, and even though they appear to be in relatively good condition, the inside is falling apart.

She’s not the only one with falling-apart shoes. History junior Aaron Valdivia says he’s had his current pair for almost three and half years, and they do not look good. But he still wears them.

“Converse seems like one of those shoes you can wear until they just disintegrate or something,” Valdivia says.

Valdivia says he has been wearing Converse shoes since he was a kid and has gone through quite a few pairs since then.

With the company just recently celebrating their centennial year, they intend to stick around.

“Converse is the footwear company that was first in sports and first in rock ‘n’ roll, and we will continue to be the brand that inspires originality for the next 100 years,” Jack Boys, Converse CEO says in a press release.

Converse shoes aren’t going anywhere, unless, of course, they do completely fall apart — but even that doesn’t seem to stop some people.
