Did we just witness the worst year of ASU football in the past 15 years?
Consider the following:
This year’s team achieved a winning percentage of .333, worst since .272 in 1994.
These Sun Devils won two conference games, tied for second fewest since 1994.
This year’s squad averaged 22.3 points per game, worst since 1994 (22 points).
ASU scored 34 touchdowns, fewest since 1994.
This year’s team racked up 219 first downs, second fewest since 1994
This campaign featured a six-game losing streak, the longest streak since … 2008.
Prior to 2008, though, no ASU team had ever lost six straight games in a season since 1929. It’s now happened twice in two years.
Since 1994, there are only three ASU teams that compare to this year’s version: The 2001 (4-7), 2003 (5-7) and 2008 (5-7) teams all had similar statistics and results, but since the 2003 and 2008 teams had one more win, they get the nod over this year’s version. The 2001 team lost one less game.
Yes, the defense this year was excellent, but as Bill Parcells says, you are what your record is. The record shows this was the worst season in 15 years.
