While the weather might have been numbingly cold in the Midwest over the weekend, the ASU swimming and diving teams heated up the water.

The ASU swimming team competed in the Missouri Invitational and the diving team competed in the Ohio State Invitational with both squads turning in solid performances.

The women’s team finished second with 839 points, while the men finished fifth with 416 points.

On the first day of the Missouri Invitational, several Sun Devils were successful in earning NCAA “B” standard times and winning races.

Senior Ashley Evans won the 200-yard individual medley on the women’s side, and sophomore Xavier Mohammed took the win for the 200-yard IM in the men’s race.

Mohammed earned his first NCAA “B” time in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:49.28. Evans earned an NCAA consideration with a time of 2:00.62.

The ASU women’s relay team of Jamie Martinez, Jordyn Green, Caroline Kuczynski and Katie Haron won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:42.56.

Green also won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.35.

Mohammed won his second individual race in the 400-yard IM with a time of 3:52.24. The time put him fifth on ASU’s all-time list. He also earned an NCAA “B” standard mark in the race.

Mohammed also took first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:49.58.

On the women’s side, Kuczynski took first place in the 100-yard butterfly and clocked in at 55.05. Green won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.47. Martinez took second in the women’s 100-yard backstroke and finished with a time of 55.13.

The ASU diving team also earned NCAA qualifying marks as it competed in the OSU Invitational.

“It was pretty good,” ASU diving coach Mark Bradshaw said. “We had some good dives. Overall, everybody performed well.”

Cameron Bradshaw finished in third in the 1-meter with an NCAA “A” score of 361.20. Ciara Geller placed eleventh in the 3-meter with a score of 245.55 and ended the invitational fifth on the platform.

On the second day, Elina Eggers placed eighth on the 1-meter and earned 282.9 points. Sunday, she closed out competition by finishing second on the platform. Bradshaw placed 13th on the 3-meter and scored 297.65.
