Dissecting a decade of ASU sports
June 2007 — Three months after capturing the indoor national title, the ASU women’s track completed the sweep when it took the NCAA outdoor crown.
The Sun Devils finished with 60 points to edge out LSU (53 points) to clinch the championship and become just the third women’s team in NCAA history to win both the indoor and outdoor national titles.
ASU was led by Jessica Pressley (shot put), Jacquelyn Johnson (heptathlon) and April Kubishta (pole vault), who all took home individual national championships. Coach Greg Kraft was also named the USTFCCCA National Women’s Coach of the Year.
The Sun Devils continued their domination the following season, as both the men’s and women’s teams won the 2008 indoor national title behind collegiate record-breaking performances from Johnson (pentathlon) and Ryan Whiting (shot put).
