The Tempe Police Department and the city court buildings were evacuated Friday morning as authorities investigated a suspicious package found in front of the police station.

The incident occurred around 11 a.m. near Forest Avenue and Fifth Street, a police official said.

Tempe Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Carbajal said in an e-mail that a bomb squad used a robot to check the package and  found two non-explosive items inside.

Investigators questioned the owner of the package, but no arrests were made, Carbajal said.

Light rail and bus operations at the Tempe Transportation Center nearby were not affected, he said.

No other information was available.
