I know I am not alone when I say sports are a major part of my life.

From the time I wake up to the time I got to bed, I am constantly consuming sports media and have a constant desire to watch and know more.

However, sports are often overemphasized in today’s culture and sometimes we forget what truly is important. Sports, at its core, serve only as a form of entertainment. A mere accessory.

Thanksgiving is supposed to be a day of reflection and giving thanks for the many blessings we all have, yet this interpretation will likely be relegated to a 30-second prayer prior to heaping amounts of stuffing, potatoes and turkey that are devoured between the Dolphins versus the Cowboys and the 49ers versus the Ravens.

Although there is nothing wrong with gorging on massive amounts of food and spending the entire day watching football, try to spend a few moments tomorrow thinking about family, friends and all the things that truly matter in your life.

Use Thanksgiving for what it’s really worth; football may be a big part of your life, but it is surely not the most important thing and Thanksgiving is the perfect time for all of us to regain that perspective we so often lost throughout the year.
