I hope Tom Brokaw does not talk very long as the ASU commencement speaker.
I am looking forward to the broadcasting legend speaking at my brother’s graduation, but the afternoon of May 5 is also the day of the Kentucky Derby.
With high-class breeding and training involved with each horse, it will be any pony’s race.
Most of the derby field is set. Oddsmakers will not decide the favorite until they see the horses work out in the coming weeks.
Of the field of about 20 horses, three stand out right now.
Union Rags showed his true potential by winning the Fountain of Youth. Rags’ stock has dropped after coming in second at the Florida Derby, but I still see him as the favorite.
Two weekends ago, Gemologist surprised me and won the Wood Memorial.
Last weekend, Bodemeister stole the show when he won the Arkansas Derby wire to wire. He is a sprinter, so he should get out to a quick start in the Derby, but I don’t think he will have enough speed to win in May.
No matter the winner, it will be a great race.
So don’t get off topic, Tom. Coverage starts at 2 p.m.
