Letter: Mental disorders have problematic answers

In response to Daniel Mills’ Sept. 6 column, "How I overcame anxiety without anti-depressants, a tribute to biofeedback therapy"

I found the article incredibly dismissive to those of us with severe anxiety disorders. I, for one, battle with OCD every day. You've no idea how many times I've been told to just “calm down” and “get up off the floor.” I've been called a drama queen more than once. I would like nothing more than to be able to function without my meds. I'm living just above the poverty level due solely to the price of my medications; I don't have enough money for any sort of insurance. I'm sure there are some people who would benefit from the methods you described, but there are just as many people who absolutely cannot function without their meds. I hate to see the notion that anxiety disorders have an easy fix popularized by the media. I beg you to do more research and talk to other people who suffer from these illnesses. They are very real and very serious.
