It seems like a long time ago that I was selecting Alex Rodriguez as my No. 1 overall pick for my fantasy baseball team.
It seems like a long time ago, because it was a long time ago.
I do not remember A-Rod going No. 1 since I was in grade school.
Not a lot of people expected Rodriguez’s production to decline so much late in his career. The Yankees management certainly did not predict it.
The third baseman still has over $100 million left on his contract. Seeing how he could not hit in the playoffs, it might be time for the Steinbrenner heave-ho out of town.
But not a single team in its right mind is going to pick up a $100 million contract for a dwindling star. So the Yankees are probably going to absorb about $80 million of that contract.
That means they are going to pay Rodriguez $80 million just so he can never wear the pinstripes again.
These kinds of sports stories always make me stop in my tracks.
Me, personally, I would love to make one — just one — million dollars in my lifetime. A-Rod is going to make $80 million by not doing anything.
