(Photo by Tess Homan)Tempe City Councilman Kolby Granville, an ASU alumnus, talked with the Tempe Undergraduate Student Government Senate on Tuesday during a question and answer session before the biweekly Senate meeting.
“I want to come back and listen to the people that helped create me,” Granville said.
He became interested in government by working with the Residence Hall Association and USG during his time at ASU, Granville said.
He was elected to the city council last spring.
Granville said his time at ASU taught him that he can affect change and improve the community around him.
“It’s within my power to change the things I interact with,” he said. “It’s a really powerful realization.”
During the Senate meeting, USG passed Senate Bill 34, which would allow the senate president to change senator stipends with discretion as required by specific situations.
This would allow the senate president to end pay for any senator who vacates his position and switch the stipend to any replacements hired midterm.
USG also approved Senate Bill 41, which allocated funds for a new Bollywood dance team, ASU Aashiyana.
The Senate did not pass Senate Bill 38 which would have given $450 to Sun Devils for Wildlife Conservation.
