Territorial Cup trophy returns to campus Wednesday

The Territorial Cup will be returned to its original home Wednesday.

ASU archivist Rob Spindler will make the trip to Tucson to retrieve the Cup from the UA Hall of Fame. Late Wednesday afternoon, the oldest rivalry trophy in college football will arrive on the Tempe campus and be placed in the Luhrs Reading Room on the fourth floor of Hayden Library.

The Territorial Cup, made of Britannia-base metal with a silver-plated shell, was originally created by Reed and Barton of Taunton, Massachusetts. The trophy reads, “Arizona Foot Ball League Championship 1899 Normal.”

The trophy hoisted by coach Todd Graham and the players following ASU’s victory Friday night was a replica created to be transported safely back and forth between the teams.

Students can view the Territorial Cup in its case at any time after Wednesday in Hayden Library.
