Hello,

It’s hard to imagine this semester has ended.

As I’m scrambling to finish all the work for my finals, my duties as managing editor of The State Press and prepare for the coming semester, I haven’t had a moment to revel in this moment. After two and a half years at The State Press, I will be editor-in-chief.

It’s a crazy thought, but I cannot be more excited. As a journalist anxious to be a part of the growing digital atmosphere, The State Press is ready to be a digital game changer. I got the first taste of a digital transition as a summer intern at The Times-Picayune in New Orleans. It can be difficult to let go of tradition, but change is exhilarating.

So, as you head off to vacations in the sun (or worse, return to the snow, ugh), I will be working with a stellar team of editors, writers and photographers to bring you an awesome online and print product. (And sending them motivational GIFs.)

We’re seeking to answer questions such as how has ASU grown into the next great American university? Is it working? What is the future of athletic facilities and programs? We will bring you excellent coverage as spring sports make multiple runs for NCAA titles and moving features of students and faculty as reporters uncover untold stories.

The State Press will continue to bring coverage of the University and its students. We will expand our campus coverage and reinvigorate our design. What can you expect next semester? Shareable content, stunning photos, stimulating design and a focus on what makes ASU great and how the University can improve.

I want you, our readers, to be a part of it. Contact me with story ideas, concerns and complaints, praise and well wishes. The best way to reach me is crcruz1@asu.edu, but tweeting me @CaitlinRCruz works just as well.

I’m not sure you can quantify how excited I am for next semester, but it might look something like this. Or this.

May the odds be ever in your favor,

Caitlin Cruz

Editor-in-Chief, Spring 2013
