During the 1969-70 season, 41 years ago, the Phoenix Suns started off 15-23 under coach Johnny “Red” Kerr.
General manager and former Suns owner Jerry Colangelo took over as the interim head coach after Kerr’s dreadful start.
Sound familiar at all?
Colangelo would lead Connie Hawkins, Dick Van Arsdale and the Suns to a 39-43 record, finishing 24-20.
Remarkably, the Suns made the playoffs before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Western Division Semifinals in the final game of the series.
How remarkable would it be if Suns interim head coach Lindsey Hunter, who was by no means the popular choice or fans’ choice, could lead a 13-28 team into the playoffs with an epic finish to the season?
All signs point to that being a one-in-a-million chance. But I am saying there’s a chance. Yes, I just made a "Dumb and Dumber" reference.
Hunter started off 2-0 before losing a lead to the Dallas Mavericks.
Do you believe in miracles?
Not yet, but it's something to think about.
