The Chicago Blackhawks have started the shortened 2013 season better than any other team in NHL history.
Their 14-0-3 start has been spectacular and nothing short of dominant.
This team still won't will win the Stanley Cup.
First, let's start with the obvious reason.
The Blackhawks can't stay this hot all season. Eventually, it will cool down and start losing games return to this planet called Earth.
Also, its defensive and goalie play has been outstanding, which has exceeding all expectations.
The Blackhawks are giving up only 1.9 goals per game so far this season after giving up 2.8 last year.
For as good as they've been defensively, they just aren't that good.
Adding Michal Roszival from the Coyotes was a big boost, but its goaltending is where the real problem lies.
Journeyman Ray Emery is 7-0 with a 2.10 GAA this season and career 2.44 GAA netminder Corey Crawford is 7-0-3 and sporting a 1.65 GAA.
It's a stretch to think either of those guys are going to stay that hot all the way throughout the regular season and into the postseason.
The Blackhawks have been on the right side of the lockout-shortened season early on, but it's possible it has already peaked.
But for now, it rules the NHL.
