Devil Dish: Stop calling Joe Flacco elite

Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning are elite quarterbacks.

Joe Flacco is not.

Yes, he just won a Super Bowl with 11 touchdowns to no interceptions in the postseason. Only Joe Montana had done that before.

You know what else Montana had? Four rings and two MVPs.

You know what Flacco has? One ring and nowhere near an MVP.

Yes, he beat Manning and Brady on the road. Broncos safety Rahim Moore blew coverage to let the game go to overtime on a hail mary pass. The Ravens defense shut down Brady to the tune of 13 points.

Flacco didn't do that.

Flacco is an above average quarterback who is being put on a pedestal because of one great postseason. Ever take a look at his playoff numbers before this year?

He threw an even eight touchdowns to eight interceptions. He averaged 170 yards in the air. He completed passes at a rate of 54.3 percent. That is identical to Mark Sanchez's 2012 completion percentage.

Calling Flacco elite? Please. He’s good, but let’s see him have more than one great four-game stretch.

Finally, can you honestly say you’d rather have Flacco over Brady, Brees, Rodgers and Manning?
