ASU Police reported the following incident Thursday:
Three 18-year-old men and one 19-year-old man were arrested Wednesday morning near the railroad tracks between South College Avenue and South Rural Road on suspicion of third-degree trespassing, according to a police report.
One of the 18-year-old men was also arrested on suspicion of drug paraphernalia possession, police reported.
Police entered the Union Pacific property and spotted the silhouettes of four people seated on the railroad tracks, according to the report.
Police used the patrol car's spotlight to find the four men walking away from the officers, police reported.
Police identified the four men by their driver’s licenses and ASU identification cards and asked them why they were on the railroad tracks, police reported.
The men said they were only out for a walk, according to the report.
An officer smelled burnt marijuana in vicinity of the men, according to the report.
He took each of the men aside individually for questioning, police reported.
The first man said he did not know what the police officer was talking about and consented to being searched, police reported.
The next man told police the group had been smoking marijuana on the railroad tracks and showed the officer the pipe they were using, according to the report.
The man consented to being searched, and officers found nothing on him, according to the report.
The other two men told police they were not smoking marijuana and refused to be searched, police reported.
Police arrested the men on suspicion of criminal trespassing, according to the report.
An officer found a grinder with marijuana on one of the men, police reported.
Before transporting the men, police found another pipe, which the men denied knowing anything about, on the ground, police reported.
The men were processed and charged with criminal trespassing, and one was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the report.
