Video: Collegiate gymnastics scoring criteria
NCAA gymnastics uses the traditional 10-point scoring system. Olympic and collegiate scoring used to be the same until there were discrepancies at the 2004 Olympics in Athens. The main argument was that execution was being compromised for difficulty.
College athletes compete as a team and not just as individuals. If they meet the minimum requirements during their routine, scoring starts at 9.5. Five-tenths can be added to the score if they display originality, skills and connective value.
Scoring 196 points is a difficult feat to attain but one that the Sun Devils accomplished against Bridgeport for the first time since 2009.
