Golf carts moved, damaged

ASU Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

Police are investigating an attempted theft of and damage to golf carts on the 1500 block of South Rural Road between Friday and Sunday, according to a police report.

Several of the carts were unplugged and three were pushed about 5 feet away from their original spots in a seeming attempt to remove the carts from the parking lot, according to the report.

Another cart had been pushed 50 feet away and was damaged, police reported.

The windshield and backseat had been removed and the steering wheel broken beyond repair, police reported.

Damage estimates are about $500, according to the report.

A 41-year-old man was arrested Sunday at East Apache Boulevard and South McClintock Drive on suspicion of drug paraphernalia possession and having an outstanding warrant, according to a police report.

Police stopped the man for jaywalking and conducted a wants and warrant search, police reported.

The search revealed the man had a misdemeanor warrant for shoplifting, according to the report.

The man was handcuffed as police explained he was not being arrested, only detained as the warrant was confirmed, police reported.

The man said, “I may have a pipe in my pocket. You’re going to find it anyway,” according to police.

Police confirmed the warrant and removed items from the man’s clothing for transport, police reported.

Officers found the pipe in a maroon washcloth in his pocket, along with a dryer sheet and a plastic stick containing white powder residue, according to the report.

The man said the pipe belonged to his friend, police reported.

The man was booked to the Fourth Avenue Jail, according to the report.
