Another pin on the map

After starting House of Cards on Netflix, I had an urge to rush off and visit DC. That, and my best friend, Alexa Pereda attends Georgetown and always tells me about her fabulous life she has created there with her friends. Part of a long-term bucket list item that I have is to visit my best friends at their colleges, and visiting out nation’s capital was also on the list, allowing me to double dip on my bucket list challenge.

Over fall break I traveled to Washington D.C. from Thursday to Tuesday, my first time on the east coast.

Week Overview:

Thursday: My first night in DC we went to the top of the Georgetown roof and overlooking the school and watched the nightlife. Alexa introduced me to her friends; they mostly consist of international students from Spain, Britain, Italy, Argentina, Singapore, etc. It was so fun to experience culture from around the world at Georgetown and learn about different customs from Alexa’s friends.

Friday: I got the whole Georgetown experience with a full tour of the school as well as the best local coffee and cupcake spots. We went on a walk along the Potomac and got all the way to the Kennedy Center. Alexa and I went to the roof of the center and got to overlook the Potomac and city at night.

Saturday: I’ve never walked so much in my life! Alexa and I took a walking tour of the monuments and took the time to be true tourists with an overload of selfies. We also visited the White House; it was so surreal to finally see everything in person.

Sunday: I had my very first Metro experience as Alexa and I traveled to Virginia to see my other best friend, Kassidy Schmidt. We visited her in Chinatown and got to walk around and eat some good food. Kassidy attends Marymount University in Virginia as a competitive swimmer for their team.

Monday: Feeling adventurous, Alexa and I went kayaking on the Potomac River, and we made it pretty far down the river for only paddling half the time. After our kayaking venture, I took the metro yet again to the Smithsonian museum. We went to the Natural History Smithsonian museum and looked at all the different animals on display.

Tuesday: My final morning in DC was dedicated to goodbyes and eating good food. We ate coffee, pastries and pie.

My week was jammed packed with activities, friends, food and fun. My trip to the east coast was exciting and successful and I can now add another pin to my world map and a check off the bucket list.

This kind of adventure is something you should definitely add to your own bucket list. Make memories with your friends in their college towns.
